Materials

My paintings are shaped in stages, whereapon I build layers of texture which are inspired by earth elements: the composing of earth's surfaces, rock textures, weathering and crackling.

To develop these textures and shapes I layer a hard plaster medium with stone powder. A tiered depth is achieved with translucent acrylic washes and overlays of oil glazes. This creates a rich patina which draws the viewer into its unpredictable beauty.

The layered surface becomes random and unique, developing the character and individual identity of each work of art.
